ATI Delegation attended the 2009 Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference, taking place Sept. 15-19 in Barra de Tijuca, an eastern suburb of Rio de Janeiro. The Rio Oil & Gas Expo has become one of the most important exhibition of the oil & gas industry in the world. ATI personnel visited during the show the booths of its partners RG Petro-Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Honghua Petroleum Equipment Co., Ltd.
State-owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) spoke on “presalt” plays of Brazil. The total reserves that have been logged are 14 billion barrels with most of the reserves in deep water, and about 20% of the reserves are natural gas. Petrobras has been working on the first production pilot, Tupi in the Santos Basin which will begin producing in 2010, and has approved two additional presalt pilots to begin in 2013 – 2014.
The deepwater developments require integrated surface and subsurface technologies, and Brazil is becoming a large market for offshore activities.
